Anywhere Anytime – Another Look

Just what is anytime anywhere computing, and why would I be interested?

No it is nothing to do with songs from Rita Coolidge or Sarah Brightman

Anytime anywhere computing is being able to do computer based work wherever you are instead of tied to a desk in an office. This gives you big advantages. You are free to work when you get that awesome idea for an extra project, instead of going back to the office or writing it down to try and do tomorrow. You can visit your clients at their workplaces or collaborate in real-time when you aren’t sitting in the same office at that moment.

I asked a non-tech friend what Anytime Anywhere computing meant for her:

Being able to chase your dreams around the world but still being able to have an income eg living on a canal boat in France while still running your business. So long as you have a stable internet connection you can be developing your income (your business)

Meaning…?

Stable internet connection– using a data stick plugged into your laptop, or a smartphone with mobile data. It can also mean using an available wifi access point (You’ll want to talk security with Jason)

Running your business– yes you might be travelling or on holiday, but you are still able to work as you choose. Because your documents and systems are cloud based you can access them wherever and whenever you have internet access.

What do you need? An internet accessible device (phone, tablet, laptop) with an up-to-date browser

Who wants to work this way? People who travel a lot, conference attendees, those whose job takes them out of the office such as sales reps, managers, on-site service technicians; anyone really

What would you do anywhere? check email, pay bills, write invoices or your book, brainstorm business expansion ideas, plan your next marketing strategy with your advisory team (even when they are in London and Eketahuna and you are in Woolloomooloo)

How do I use Anywhere Anytime?

How about some examples-

• Jason works with computers, he also visits clients on site to help them with their computers. If Jason is onsite but discovers he needs certain specialised information he doesn’t need to go back to the office because he can look it up immediately in his company’s secure cloud files
• Anita is a travel agent and usually works in her company’s office. If she is away overseas on a familiarisation trip and one of her clients needs to change their booking she can log into her company’s cloud based booking system and make any alterations needed
• Phil is a builder who works onsite at client’s homes but does admin at home office. While onsite he is able to check his contract documents for details of what he and his client agreed on, ensuring both are happy with the finished job
